Dorm Decor: Globes

These are a fun addition to your room for the traveler inside you. It’s quick and easy to paint them; a nice mindless task to de-stress.

Materials:

Globes

I love the base of this globe. Great price on Amazon as well.

Acrylic Paint

Pick your two favorite colors.

Brushes

These are cheap and basic. Just what you need for this.

Paint Marker

I prefer the fine point. Metallic also stands out really well.

Steps:

Begin by deciding which color you want to be the water. and which to be the land. I painted two globes and did the reverse colors on each just to mix it up; they also have alternate base colors. Then choose your lighter color and paint over all the water or land, whichever you decided. Once you’ve finished that paint the remaining water or land with the other darker color you chose. It’s a good idea to let the first color dry a bit first so the edges don’t mix or smudge. I’d recommend your finest brush for tracing the outlines of the land.

Here are my inverse colors for water and land.

Finally, once everything is completely dry, take your paint marker (I love silver and gold) and write an inspirational quote, phrase or word. You can trace your words over lightly with a pencil beforehand to test the placement and size. Let your writing dry and voila, you’re done. You have your own hand-painted globe that matches your color scheme.
